Enabling the Auto Volume feature

The Auto Volume feature helps you hear your music evenly as your environment changes from quiet to loud and back. This feature is not enabled by default.

To enable the Auto Volume feature:

  1. In the Bose app icon, tap the Settings icon icon in the upper-right corner.
If a different product is shown, tap the My Bose icon icon in upper-left corner then select the desired product.
  2. Scroll down to the Sound section and select Auto Volume.
The earbuds must be running firmware version 1.9.6 or greater to access this feature.
  3. Tap the toggle switch—moving it to the right—to enable the setting.

About the Auto Volume feature

  • When automatic volume adjustments are made, they are not reflected in the volume slider in the app or in the volume level indicator of the connected device. If the earbuds are at the maximum volume level, automatic volume adjustments will not occur.
  • The amount of adjustment depends on the amount of noise detected. The adjustment level is not a fixed amount.
  • Volume increase adjustments are gradual and may not always be noticeable. Upon entering a quieter environment, volume decrease adjustments will occur swiftly.
  • Auto Volume does not increase latency of the audio playback with a video.
  • Auto Volume processing is performed by both earbuds then a determination is made as to the adjustment applied to both earbuds.

To verify the Auto Volume feature is working.

  1. While music is playing, set the volume level very low.
  2. With Auto Volume enabled, using a fingernail, scratch the outside of both earbuds simultaneously and continuously for 10 to 15 seconds. The volume level should noticeably increase.
  3. Stop scratching both buds and the volume level should quickly decrease
